A-L results show 142,000 eligible for university

Of the 239,624 students who sat the Advanced Level Examination
142,000 are eligible to enter universities, Examinations Commissioner
General Anura Edirisinghe said.
The examination was held under two curriculums new and old. According
to the Commissioner, 203,823 school candidates and 35,801 private
candidates numbering 239,624 sat for the examination.
Of this total of 239,624 students 142,000 have got through all three
subjects while 23,233 have failed all three subjects. Accordingly, the
pass rate of all three subjects is 60 percent.
Meanwhile, 3,687 students have obtained "A" passes for all three
subjects, which come under five streams. Under this, 422 students in the
Biological Science stream, 317 students in the Mathematics stream, 800
students in the Economic stream, 2,146 students in the Arts stream and
two students in the Other stream amounting 3,687 students have obtained
"A" passes for all three subjects. The Commissioner said that 20,862
students from Biological Science stream, 13,289 from Mathematics stream,
30,893 from Commerce stream, 75,734 from Arts stream and 407 from the
Other stream have qualified for university entrance. |
