Elephant-Lemonade Cup:
Textured Jersey and Softlogic clash in final
Textured Jersey and Softlogic, both newcomers to the
Elephant-Lemonade Cup MCA “D” division 50-overs League tournament 2012,
advanced to the Final of the ongoing tournament, winning their
semi-finals played over the week-end.
On the Poya Day, sterling innings by Nuwan Alahakoon (98 runs in 127
balls, inclusive of 12 fours and two sixes) guided Textured Jersey to a
convincing 28–runs win over Mobitel.
Alahakoon was associated in two productive partnerships, 110-runs for
the second wicket with Tharaka Dinesh (38) and 65 runs for the 3rd
wicket with Kosala Jayasekera (45).
Rangeeth Peiris put the finishing touches with a splendid 56 runs to
propelled Textured Jersey to a commanding 271 for 7 in 50 overs.
In form batsman, Nalin Vimukthi spear-headed the Mobitel run-chase
with a workman–like 60 runs, but there was no rear-guard to hold the
fort, as they fell to 243 all out, in the last over.
The match winning bowlers for Textured Jersey were, Kosala Jayasekera,
Tharaka Dinesh and T. Devinda (all with identical bowling figures of 2
for 35 a piece.)
On Sunday, Softlogic’s Ishara Wickramasinghe (5 for 24 in 5.1 overs)
took his tally of wickets to 20 in five matches, with his second 05
wickets haul, as sent Hayley’s (all out for 104 in 31.1 overs) crashing
to a humiliating 94 runs defeat.
