Iran: Head of Iran's Judiciary describes US
President Barack Obama's request for the return of the US spy drone
downed by the Islamic Republic's armed forces last week as
outrageous. “The US has violated our country's territory and has
waged an intelligence war, and now expects us to return the
aircraft,” Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani was quoted as saying by a
Judiciary statement on Wednesday.

UN calls for action on Syria in 'name of humanity'
Syria: UN chief Ban Ki-moon urged world powers
on Wednesday to act “in the name of humanity” against Syria's
crackdown on dissent, as a US official likened the Damascus regime
to a “dead man walking.” Activists said Syrian forces killed another
21 civilians on a day when the US State Department's special
coordinator on Middle East affairs Frederic Hof told US lawmakers
that “change is surely coming to Syria.”

S. Koreans dread year-end drinks parties
S Korea: A majority of office workers in
hard-drinking South Korea dread the customary year-end drinks
parties or banquets hosted by their bosses, according to a survey
seen Thursday. A poll of 1,035 employees by recruitment portal Job
Korea found that almost 70 percent are tired of the traditional
binge drinking to mark Christmas and the New Year.
