All Island Intermediate Novices TT C'ships:
Shanilka and Anuja Most Outstanding Players
Anuradha ABEYSEKERA
Shanilka Jinadasa of Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala who
clinched a double crown by winning girls' under 15, under 18 titles and
boys' under 18 champion Anuja Nimesh of Kingswood College, Kandy were
adjudged the Most Outstanding girls and boys' players respectively in
the All Island Intermediate/Novices Table Tennis Championship which
concluded on a grand note at the St. Mary's College Kegalle recently.
Kegalle District Table Tennis Association conducted the tournament
with the assistance of Sri Lanka Table tennis Association.
Shanika beat her school mate Loshini Jayawardana (10-12, 11-09,
11-09) after a tough contest in the under-15 final, where she got on to
her rhythm in the second set after losing the first set to Loshini
(10-12). Shanika faced less trouble in the under 18 final as she humbled
Samadhi Hettiarachchi of Mahamaya College, Kandy (12-10, 11-09). Anuja
defeated Yasintha Basnayaka of Dharmaraja College, Kandy (09-11, 13-11,
11-07) in a much contested three setter, after facing a set back in the
first set (09-11).
Chami Gangoda and D. N. B. Athauda emerged the Novices women's and
men's champions in order while Piumi Deudini and Lithmina Mahanama won
the Intermediate women's and men's titles respectively.
Sabaragamuwa Province Chief Minister Maheepala Herath was the chief
guest at the award ceremony.
Final Result
Under 8 Girls: Thasini Kauya (Prajapathi Balika Maha Vidyalaya,
Ambalangoda) beat Aloka Oshadhini - 11-09, 11-06.
Under 8 Boys: Yasiru Maleesha (Vidyartha College, Kandy) beat
Matheesha Wickramanayaka (Kegalu Vidyalaya, Kegalle.) - 11-07, 09-11,
11-05.
Under 10 Girls: W. I. S. Piyasadi (Sussex College, Kegalle.) beat
Anuradha Hemachandra (Holly Family Convent, Kurunegala.) - 14-12, 11-07.
Under 10 Boys: Dulaj Ranathunga (Sussex College, Kegalle.) beat D. U.
R. Dangalla (Dudley Senanayake Central College, Tholangamuwa.) -13-11,
12-10.
Under 12 Girls: D. H. Kolambage (Prajapathi Balika Maha Vidyalaya,
Ambalangoda) beat Loshini Jayawardana (Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya,
Kurunegala) - 13-11, 11-08.
Under 12 Boys: Supun Wimalasena (Maliyadeva Boy's College, Kurunegala)
beat Veron De Silva (Dharmashoka College, Ambalangoda) - 11-09, 09-11,
11-05.
