Policy on establishment of health assessment for resident visa
applicants to Sri Lanka
The Cabinet has decided to implement a policy to conduct a health
assessment for resident visa applicants to Sri Lanka on Health Minister
Maithripala Sirisena's proposal.
An Immigration Health Unit will be established at the Immigration and
Emigration Department in collaboration with the Health Ministry to
verify the health assessment documents of those immigrants.
Project to construct 350 metre multifunctional communication tower
with a Leisure Park in Colombo.
Cabinet approval has been granted to construct a multifunctional
television and telecommunication tower, 350 metres in height, which
could be used by 50 telecasting services, ten telecommunication services
and 50 radio broadcasting services.
The proposal made the President to rename the project as Colombo
Lotus Tower Project and to explore the possibility of shifting the
project to a central tourist zone in Colombo was approved by the Cabinet
UK assistance to reconstruct 141 bridges
Cabinet approved a project to construct 141 single and two lane steel
bridges throughout the country with financial assistance from Great
Britain on a proposal by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Ports and
Highways Minister.
The Road Development Authority (RDA) has identified around 160
bridges needing replacement on a priority basis. Mabey Bridge Limited,
UK is involved in the regional bridge project implemented by the RDA
with UK funding of pounds 45 million.
Approval was also granted to rehabilitate 29.21 kms of the Galigamuwa-
Ruwanwella Karawanella B 127 Road at Rs 2,472 million under the project
of rehabilitations national highways, with concrete surfacing through
domestic contractors.
Construction of new building for Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda
Institute and Colombo University
A proposal was made by Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake to
construct a four storied building at Rs.79 million for Gampaha
Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute
Another proposal by Minister Dissanayake to construct two stories,
under stage I of the proposed seven storied building for the Faculty of
Graduate Studies of the Colombo University was approved by Cabinet.
The first two floors under Stage I of this project will be
constructed at Rs.152 million allocated from the generated funds of the
Faculty of Graduate Studies.
New buses for CTB
A proposal by Transport Minister Kumara Welgama, to award the tender
on the recommendation of the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement
Committee, for the procurement 163 numbers of 54 seater buses from the
Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC., was approved by Cabinet.
Euro 11.5 m grant assistance from Germany for North-East projects
The Federal Republic of Germany has agreed to provide Euro 11,500,000
to implement development projects in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
Under this project a vocational training centre will be established
in Kilinochchi with a capacity of providing facilities to 400 students.
Further facilities will also be made available for small and medium
sector development projects which include textile, agribusiness, food
and beverages, tourism related industry, livestock etc.
The proposal made by the President, in his capacity as Finance and
Planning Minister to sign the exchange of notes with the Federal
Republic of German government was approved by Cabinet.
Agreement with China to obtain Yuan 100 million grant assistance
The government of the People's Republic of China has agreed to
provide Renminbi Yuan 100 million to Sri Lanka and the proposal made by
the President, in his capacity as the Finance and Planning Minister to
enter into an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement between the
two countries in December 2011 was approved by Cabinet. |
