Kelaniya Duruthu Perahera
The annual Kelaniya Duruthu Perahera at the Kelaniya Rajamaha Vihara
will be held on January 6, 7 and 8. The perahera had its origins in
1927, largely due to efforts of philanthropist Don Walter Wijewardene.
The Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya celebrates this event annually in
Duruthu Poya during January by conducting the historic, traditional and
cultural pageant.
Meticulous attention has been paid to all details with the objective
of perpetuating traditional rites, rituals and customs.
The perahera will commence with the handing over of the Relics Casket
to Chief Basnayake Nilame, Dhammika Attygalle by Viharadhipathi, Ven
Professor Kollupitiya Mahinda Sangharakkita Nayake Thera. The Perahera
will commence at 8 pm. There will be a special enclosure for tourists to
view the perahera.
NAITA’s 40th anniversarytoday
The National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA)
will celebrate it’s 40th anniversary today.
NAITA provides vocational and technical training for youths to
produce skilled labour for the country.NAITA conducts islandwide
training programmes aimed at small, medium and large scale enterprises
under the patronage of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister
Dullas Alahapperuma.
Iran stage drama troupe performance in Colombo
A seven member stage drama troupe from the Islamic Republic of Iran
will visit Sri Lanka next week. The troupe will perform at John de Silva
Theatre, Colombo 7, from December 20 to 24. The shows will commence at
5.00 pm and admission is free.
2012 Udanaya in Kandy
‘2012 Udanaya’ a musical show organized by the Old Rajans Scout
Association of Dharmaraja College, Kandy for raising funds in aid of the
RISGO Centennial Jamboree will be held on December 17 at Bandaranaike
National School premises, Kundasale, Kandy from 8 p.m.
The music is directed by Seeduwe Sakura with Ajith Vithanage.
Public talk
Prof. Rajah de Alwis will deliver a public talk in English on ‘Final
Session on Vipassana as taught by Goen Kajeer’, at the meeting of the
Servants of the Buddha Society on December 17 at 4.30 p.m at Maithree
Hall, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.
Power pirate raids in SP

Southern Provincial Ceylon Electricity Board officials have collected
Rs 1,429,657.67 from raids on power pirates in the Southern region in
October. According to officials, this sum was made up of Rs 230,000 as
court fines and Rs 1,199,657.67 as compensation for the deprivation of
revenue to the CEB. |
