Violations on Expressway

Police have charged 153 motorists who have violated highway traffic rules on the Southern Expressway so far since its opening.

A total of 15 accidents had occurred on the country's first Expressway within 15 days since the opening of the Southern Expressway,said Police Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana. Excessive speed, accidents due to reckless driving and violating other regulations are the main reasons for taking legal action against the above motorists. Meanwhile, charges have also been filed against a pedestrians for walking along the Expressway, which is prohibited, he added.

The SP noted that the law will be strictly implemented against motorists violating traffic laws on the Southern Expressway.
