Water supply, sanitation to Maradamadu church

The government has taken steps to provide water and sanitation
facilities to the Maradamadu church under the direction of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardana
said.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony to develop water supply
facilities to the Maradamadu church under the water supply project
implemented in Mannar recently. The ceremony was held under the
patronage of Minister Dinesh Gunawardana and Rev Bishop Rayappu Joshap.
The Maradamadu church water supply project will be implemented in two
stages. The government will allocate around Rs. 505 million for this.
Minister Gunawardana said: "We have received an opportunity to
commence this project in December which is the month of significance to
Christians due to Christmas celebrations."
The government has also taken steps to renovate the Maradamadu church
on the instructions of President Rajapaksa. Providing facilities for
pilgrims to the Maradamadu church was a main aim of the President, he
said. This water supply project will help provide drinking water to
pilgrims and cooking and sanitation facilities. The government will
ensure the security of the public and economic development in these ares,
the minister said. |
