MP Namal Rajapaksa takes oaths as Attorney-at-Law

Parliamentarian Lakshman Namal Rajapaksa yesterday took oaths as an
Attorney-at-Law before a three judge Supreme Court Bench, comprising
Chief Justice Dr. Shirani A. Bandaranayake, Justice Nimal Gamini
Amaratunga and Justice Suresh Chandra.
Namal’s parents President Mahinda Rajapaksa, First Lady Shiranthi
Rajapaksa, his two brothers Yoshitha and Rohitha, Speaker Chamal
Rajapaksa, Cabinet Ministers, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and
well-wishers were present at the ceremonial sitting of the Supreme
Court.
After the conclusion of the oaths ceremony, Namal went up to his
parents, who were seated in the front row of the Ceremonial Court
premises and worshipped them and received their blessings.
Namal Rajapaksa had his higher education in the United Kingdom on
International Law.
He is the founder President of the “Tharunyata Hetak”, a movement for
youth which introduced innovative concepts to meet the demands of youth
in Sri Lanka. The movement has made a significant contribution to meet
the aspirations of rural youth.
A brilliant product of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia Namal
Rajapaksa represented his school in rugby. He was a versatile rugby
player for S. Thomas’ and captained the school team in his final year.
Incidentally, Namal’s younger brothers Yoshitha and Rohitha played in
the same team for S. Thomas’ first XV.
Namal had an outstanding record as a schoolboy ruggerite which earned
him a place in the Sri Lanka Under-19 side and went on to captain the
Sri Lanka Youth team.
Namal continues to indulge in his pet sport and represents the Navy
in premier league rugby. |
