French envoy visits East
Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka Christine Robichon visited the
projects funded by the French Development Agency - AFD in the Eastern
Province recently.
France has been supporting the Eastern province's reconstruction and
development since 2005 through a major infrastructure project of Rs 12
billion funded by AFD in Trincomalee.
This integrated project focuses on the construction and
rehabilitation of public infrastructure damaged by the 2004 tsunami,
such as, roads, bridges, water supply networks, electricity transport
networks and community social infrastructure.
Ambassador Robichon visited the Kinniya water tower which will be the
highest water tower in Sri Lanka.
The construction of the project is part of the ongoing Rs 3.5 billion
investment in the water sector under the integrated project, aiming at
providing drinking water for over 300,000 people at Kantale, Kinniya,
Trincomalee, Thamphalakamam and Sampalthivu.
The ambassador also visited Ayurvedic hospital and Abeypura Girl's
School in Trincomalee, milk collection centre at Palathopur, Naduththivu
Road and Al Satham Vidyalam School in Muthur and sub-projects carried
out by the North East Community Restoration and Development Project.
The AFD supported 209 sub projects in the Trincomalee district.
