A great opportunity to act in ‘Hamlet’
The Shakespeare Centre in Sri Lanka which had been doing a great
service in the improvement of Sri Lankan acting and theatre education
for more than two decades is now going to come out with the production
of the stage play ‘Hamlet’ in English, while they have also planned to
do the film production of ‘Hamlet’.
‘Shakespearean Challenge’ is a programme of education and experience
organized by the Shakespeare Centre Sri Lanka. This event features five
different inter-school competitions which are completely based on the
dramatic works of William Shakespeare. These competitions are Drama,
Oration, Essay, Translation and the Speakespeare Quiz.
The Shakespeare Centre in Sri Lanka is the one and only voluntary
service theatre organization in Sri Lanka.
The participants who would like to contribute in the English play
‘Hamlet’ which will be produced by the Shakespeare Centre Sri Lanka
shall send their applications to following address with an envelope,
containing your address and stamps cost Rs 15 to Asanga Jayasinghe, Vice

by post.
Fresh talent for Dangamalla

Swarnatileke’s popular stage play Dangamalla which is based on Enid
Blyton’s The Naughtiest Girl series will return to the stage again.
The drama first hit the stage in 2003 and became a hit with the
school and theatre goers. It even won the Presidential Award during the
time. Later the play was made into a tele series. Natasha Perera
portrayed the main character in the stage drama when it hit theatres in
2003. She won the best actress title for her performance.
Swarnatileke is seeking fresh talent in restaging Dangamalla. Girls
between 10 and 12 from the Colombo district can apply by sending a
photograph along with the name, age, address and telephone number to

RAD examinations conducted this month

The Royal Academy of Dance, London will be conducting its annual
examinations around the world in December. In Sri Lanka, the Deanna
School of Dancing will be having 293 students taking part in the
examinations in different groups ranging from the ages of six to 15.
The RAD Examiner this year is Susan Graham from United Kingdom. Many
of DSD’s past students had done the RAD over the years are now teaching
ballet in countries like Singapore, England and Norway as well as in
Australia.
Principal, Deanna Jayasuriya was awarded Life Membership from the
Royal Academy of Dance for her ongoing commitment to classical ballet
for the last thirty years. |
