Budget 2012:
‘Rural schools won’t be closed, but 325 schools will be
upgraded’
Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody, presided when
Parliament met at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. After the presentation of
papers and oral questions, the House took up the Financial Heads of
Education and Higher Education for debate during the committee stage
of the Appropriation Bill 2012.

Draft NGU Act forwarded to AG's Dept - SB
Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake told
Parliament yesterday that a draft Non-Governmental Universities (NGU)
Act had been forwarded to the Attorney General and the
implementation of this Act would shut down the institutes which sell
degrees.
