Putin’s ‘minority’ party will have to share power

Vladimir Putin's ruling party yesterday heard a chorus of jeers from the Russian media after early results showed that United Russia was winning less than half the vote in polls marred by claims of fraud. “The minority party,” liberal business daily Vedomosti said acidly on its front page.

US convoys begin leaving Iraq

Attempt to minimize last minute damages:

With less than a month to go, the US military wants to minimise last-minute dangers and has paid tribal fighters cash to help provide a safe exit from Iraq after more than eight years of war. Much of the mighty US military machine is leaving Iraq by heading south to Kuwait down the main highway, a tempting target for Iran-backed militants.
