Spice Council delegation attends Int’l Pepper Community
A delegation of the Spice Council attended the 39th annual sessions
and meeting of the International Pepper Community. The event was held
from November 22 to 26 in Lombok Island, Indonesia.
The International Pepper Community (IPC) is an intergovernmental
organization of pepper producing countries. Its main function is to
coordinate and facilitate activities and exchange of information on
research, policies, and marketing specific to the pepper industry.
Annually, the members of this organization gather to discuss the
current affairs and plan actions.
This year the focus of the session was on the global strategy to face
the challenges of innovation and sustainability of the pepper trade.
The delegation was led by the Spice Council Chairman Sarada de Silva,
Vice Chairman Nanda Kohona, and Immediate Past Chairman D.A. Perera.
Minor Export Crop Promotion Minister Reginald Cooray and the Ministry
Secretary Vajira Narampanawa also attended the event. The other
delegates included several officials of the Export Agriculture
Department.
The Spice Council, in organizing the Sri Lanka delegation to this
event, has been collaborating with the Export Development Board and the
Spices and Allied Products Producers’ and Traders’ Association (SAPPTA). |
