Cathedral Breeze celebrated at Point Sheraton
This was the title given for the celebrated Old Bens Get-together
along with the co-operation of Past Shepherdians. This was held at the
Four Point Sheraton Hotel in Dubai recently.
The Old Bens and Past Shepherdians in the UAE, most of them living in
Dubai came together to hold their annual get-together in grand style,
very appropriately expressing the meaning of the title. The Cathedral
and the Square to many of us, gives nostalgic memories of yester years
for Unity, Love, Friendship. The Breeze, with the winter settling down
slowly in the desert, the Breeze gradually flows, giving the much sought
after chill climes.
At the Invitation of Old Bens, the Voice Print, an all Old Bens,
young musical group, entertained the gathering, at the Gala Night filled
with surprises and excitements. This is the very frist time they were
performing overseas under the auspicious of a OBU Branch. This amateur
choir group won the Silver and Bronze medals at the World Choir Olympics
held in China last year. Ever since they gained growing publicity and
popularity day by day in Sri Lanka. Their new standard in vocal music,
intricate acapella music and flamboyant performances, counting well over
80 during the last year have brought much fame.
The spectacular vocal impersonation of trumpets, drums electric
guitar were applauded by the mass market of Sinhala audience.
The Old Bens in the UAE Branch, mostly from Dubai comprised a young
dedicated and dynamic group. Despite day today challenges in life, they
have sacrificed a lot for ‘High be your aim in life’, in making this
event a grand success. 1992 Cricket Captain Vishan Fernando and Rugby
Vice Captain Dennis Motha, 1990 Athletic Captain Sriyal De Silva and
2001 Cricket Captain Virosh Fernando along with Rizleigh Grand, Prakash
Leon and Adrian Vangunster have contributed an immense service day and
night of course with the support and co-operation of enthusiastic
Shepherdians.
Veteran Old Benc Victor Fernando with his past experience in
organizing similar events, with sincere support by contemporaries like
Santha Perera, Chris Munindradasa and few other Senior Old Bens,
motivated, guided and assisted the youngsters to achieve the goals
earmarked.
Congratulations, to Old Bens in Dubai for successfully making this
event a reality. The project was implemented without much sponsorship
and it is great to note, the Young Committee made arrangements for eight
member Voice Print Group for their Air Travel, internal transport, food
and accommodation for four days in Dubai.
Wish all Old Bens,Past Shepherdians and their families a fantastic
and enjoyable get-together, which fostered true friendship and
understanding for more and more activities together in the future. |
