A development-oriented budget for people’s uplift

Post war economic recovery and long-term plans for improving the quality of life of the people were the main themes of budget 2012 presented by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Parliament yesterday. Accordingly, a significant increase in budgetary allocations were made to the relevant ministries towards realizing these objectives, such as, Education, Higher Education, Economic Development and Health.

President presents seventh budget

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday presented to Parliament, the 7th budget of the government under his leadership as President. Parliament met at 1.50 pm yesterday presided by Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa. After the presentation of papers Prime Minister D M Jayaratne commenced the second reading of the Appropriation Bill.
