Britons see England as 'very crowded'
UK: The results of a new poll show that almost 80 percent of Britons
believe England is overcrowded and the authorities need to live up to
their promises to cut immigration.
The survey carried out by YouGov for the MigrationWatch UK think-tank
also said that more than a third believe England to be "very crowded".
It comes as a petition, already signed by more than 90,000 people,
has been launched to demand an urgent action to stop immigration.
The think-tank described the results of the poll as worrying and
condemned the "mass immigration" permitted over the last 10 years.
It described as very worrying projections that the UK's population
would increase from 62.3 million last year to 70 million by 2027.
Earlier research had suggested that two-thirds of the rise stems from
immigration with the rest due to rising birthrates and increased life
expectancy.
The MigrationWatch UK called on the government to "take all necessary
measures" to stabilize the UK's population as close to current levels as
possible and certainly to stop it hitting the 70 million mark.
The think-tank said: "net immigration- numbers arriving minus those
leaving - needs to fall from around 240,000 last year to around 40,000 a
year to stop the population reaching 70 million".
"This poll explains the huge public support for our e-petition and
demonstrates quite clearly that most people think England is already
overcrowded. Only three per cent want net immigration higher than the
most recent level of 240,000," said MigrationWatch UK Chairman Sir
Andrew Green. PRESS TV
