Nirmala, Ishara TT champs

Nirmala Jayasinghe of Mas Intimates and Ishara Madurangi of Sri Lanka Air Force won the men’s and women’s titles respectively at the All Island Open Table Tennis championship conducted by the Kandy District Table Tennis Association (KDTTA) at the Jagath Rajapaksha International Table Tennis Stadium, Peradeniya recently.

Nearly 550 paddlers from various parts of the island took part in this tournament. B N B Jayasinghe beat Dinesh Deshappriya of Sri Lanka Navy in 7 thrilling sets in the men’s singles final ( 4 sets to 3) - 06/11, 07/11, 11/08, 11/07, 09/11, 11/5, 11/08.

In the women’s singles final Ishara Madurangi beat Erandi Warusavithana of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda in straight sets ( 4 sets to 0) - 11/5, 11/6, 13/11, 11/7.

B N B Jayasinghe and Ishara Madurangi were adjudged the Most Outstanding Players of the men’s and women’s events respectively.

The chairman of Abans (Pvt) Ltd, Pesi Pestonjee graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while several committee members from Sri Lanka Table Tennis Association (SLTTA), Committee of KDTTA, reputed coaches from all over the country and few former national champions were present to witness the splendid display of entertaining table tennis during the finals and take part in the closing ceremony.
