Six injured in accident
A private bus travelling to Jaffna from Colombo collided with a
dipper at Kokkavil on November 7. Six passengers were injured and
admitted to Kilinochchi hospital by the army. Two passengers have been
transferred to the Jaffna Teaching hospital for emergency treatment.
Cooperative Societies opened
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister
Douglas Devananda opened the hall of Jaffna Development Cooperative
Societies and the by-road leading to the society at College road,
Thinnavely on November 7. After opening the hall, the minister said the
Yarl Co products produced at this institute has earned a good name and
were praised by ministers visiting Jaffna. The development of the dairy
industry and dairy products is the objective of Yarl Co and necessary
aid will be provided for its development.
Graduates appointed
Three hundred and forty eight graduates were handed over letters of
appointment to fill the vacancies in the Northern Provincial Council.
Graduates appointed to Kilinochchi and Jaffna districts were given
letters of appointment last Sunday at Navalar Cultural Hall, Jaffna.
They will assume duties on November 14. Appointment of graduates to
Mullaithivu, Vavuniya and Mannar districts will also be made soon to
enable them to assume duties on November 14.
Soccer tournament
St. Henry’s College Illavalai emerged champions at the under 13
soccer match with Zahira College last week.
This tournament was sponsored by St. Joseph’s College, Colombo. They
defeated Zahira College by 5-3 goals. In the under 19 contest, St.
Henry’s was the runner up. St. Joseph’s College was the champion. |
