Move to strengthen police-public relations

The Police Department has made arrangements to muster the support from influential persons to strengthen the relationship between police and the public, sources said.

A committee of consultancy will be set up in every police station in the island. The advisory committee will consist of three religious dignitories, a school principal, a retired public servant, a doctor and a representative of an NGO. The seven-member committee will forward proposals, suggestions and opinions to the police on the problems of the people in the area.

The committees will meet the OIC of the police station every month and discuss issues with him.
