Happy and peaceful Haj

Dear Children,

Planetsolar in Hamburg

Thousands of Sri Lankans annually perform the Haj. Over two million people from every corner of the globe perform the Haj yearly, which is one of the fundamental pillars of Islam.

A happy Eid Mubarak to all of you.

Did you know children, that as part of the world’s first solar boat expedition, the Swiss vessel named Planetsolar arrived at the Hambantota harbour on Monday. This vessel which is on a world tour is scheduled to deck at the Colombo harbour on November 16.

Planetsolar which started its journey on September 27, 2010 in Monaco has crossed the Atlantic Ocean, the Panama Canal, Pacific and Indian Oceans and the Suez Canal and will complete its tour in May next year. The vessel which is run on solar power has a surface area of 537 square metres and six crewmembers.

Children, have a great week.

Smooth sailing,

Bye for now.

My trip to Singapore zoo

When I went to Singapore I wanted to go to the zoo. So we took a taxi to the zoo. When we arrived, we had to buy tickets. Then we went to watch a show called Splash. We saw sea lions, penguins and manatees. They did amazing tricks underwater.

I saw an elephant. It was very fat. I saw a monkey who tried to jump on me. There was an old camel who was staring at us. There were some lizards and snakes. The show I liked the most was the elephant show.

There was an elephant from Sri Lanka too. We ate ice cream from the snack bar and watched more animal shows.

It was windy and suddenly it started to rain. We had to walk under umbrellas. After a while, we decided to go back to the hotel. I was tired but had a lot of fun at the zoo.

Ode to our beloved teachers

Teachers give us guidance,
Who classify what is good and bad,
Nothing can be compared,
To your dedicated service.

You teach us the way to fly,
You teach us the way to climb,
You teach us the way to debate,
Making us as useful citizens.

You view us in different ways,
You make us as good citizens,
In the midst of any injustice that happens,
Or the cruelties of mankind.

Your loving words and kindly ways,
Are fine examples for our future,
Also you give guidance,
To make us go beyond horizons.

Your service is treasured,
Since you dedicate yourselves,
Devoting time, energy and kindness,
Which will glitter our future lives.
