Katina Pinkama
The annual Katina Pinkama of the Deepaduttarama Viharaya, Kotahena
will be held tomorrow at 6 a.m. under the patronage of Most Ven
Waskaduwe Mahindawansa Mahanayake Thera of the Amarapura Sri Sambuddha
Shasanodaya Maha Sangha Sabha.
It is sponsored by Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh
Gunawardena, the Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage and institutions
under its purview.
The Katina Perahera will leave the Water Supply and Drainage Board
premises at Pelawatte Battaramulla at 4 am on October 29 and proceed to
the temple at Kotahena passing through Rajagiriya, Ayurveda roundabout,
Borella, Maradana junction, Panchikawatta, Armour Street, Hettiyawatta
junction, Gunananda Mawatha, Vidyalaya junction, Mabel Road, Vasala
road, Kotahena junction and Kotahena Street and the Katina Cheevara
pooja will follow at 6 a.m.
Nalanda College prize day
The annual prize giving of Nalanda College will be held at the BMICH
today at 2.00 p.m.
Dr. Padmajeeva Ganepola, medical director, Centre for Cancer Research
and Genomicmedicine, The Valley Hospital, Redwood, New Jersey will be
the chief guest.
Professor Ganepola is to be recognized for his excellent achievements
in the field of medicine. He will be awarded the Nalanda Keerthi Siri
which is a lifetime award given for achievements and excellence in the
respective career fields to former Nalandians.
School traffic wardens awards ceremony
The School Traffic Wardens Awards Ceremony of Mirihana Police
Division, Organized by the Mirihana Police Division and hosted by Lyceum
International School, Nugegoda will be held on November 1 at 8.00 a.m at
the Lyceum School premises, Nugegoda.
Inspector General of Police N.K. Ilangakoon will be the chief guest,
while Senior DIG Asoka Wijesinghe Senior Superintendent of Police (Nugegoda
Division) Deshabandu Tennakoon Founder of Lyceum International Schools
Mohan Lal Grero senior police officers and principals of Nugegoda
Division will participate as guest of honours.
Media seminar
A media seminar for schools organized by the Desathiya journal of the
Government Information Department will be held at Mahaweli Prathiba
Hall, Manampitiya Polonnaruwa on October 28 attended by nearly 250 O-L
and A-L students.
Prof Ariyaratne Athugala and Dr Tudor Weerasinghe will deliver
special lectures.
Examination postponed
The Efficiency Bar Examination to be held on October 29 and 30 for
Family Health Workers (Nursing Officer-Grade two ‘A’) has been postponed
due to unavoidable circumstances. The examinations will be held on
November 12 and 13, the Health Ministry said.
Competition for children
The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), Colombo will organize painting,
drawing and writing competition for children on November 12 from 9.30
a.m. to 1.00 p.m at Indian Cultural Centre, 16/2 Gregory’s Road, Colombo
7. This event has been organized to commemorate Children’s Day, which
falls on November 14 every year, coinciding with the birthday of Shri
Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.
Children may register their names with the Centre and are requested
to come to ICC on November 12 at 9.30 a.m. The entries done by children
would be sent to New Delhi for the Shankar’s International Children’s
Competition 2012.

Ambalangoda Police will hold a mobile service, at the Balagoda
community centre, on November 5 at 9 am.
Issue of identity cards, driving licences and 400 pairs of spectacles
