A12 reconstruction starts today

The stretch of A12 Road from Anuradhapura to Trincomalee which was
badly damaged due to terrorist activity will be reconstructed and
upgraded to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic.
The reconstruction work will be inaugurated today under the patronage
of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa in Horowpothana,
Anuradhapura which will be completed within a short time on priority
basis.
The road with a length of 97.2km will be reconstructed at a cost of
Rs.12.8 billion in line with the Deyata Kirula exhibition to be
conducted in Oyamaduwa, Anuradhapura next year. The reconstruction of
the A12 Road from Puttalam to Anuradhapura has already been completed
under the first phase.
Under the second phase, the stretch from Anuradhapura to Trincomalee
will be reconstructed, Ports and Highways Deputy Minister Nirmala
Kothalawala said.
This is the major road connecting North Western, North Central and
the Eastern Provinces.
