Checks on beauty salons from Nov 1
Nadira GUNATILLEKE
The Health Ministry will inspect all beauty and hair salons
countrywide from November 1, in terms of the Cosmetic Devices and Drugs
Regulatory Authority regulations.
This is to ensure that they confirm to safety standards and quality
measures, on the direction of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
According to the spokesman, educating all salon owners commenced
yesterday from the Ampara district. Prior to carrying out hair or beauty
treatment, the salon owner should question the customer about his/her
food allergies or any other allergy to hair or beauty treatment. It is a
must to carry out a skin sensitivity test on all customers. Hair or
beauty treatment should be done only after two days of the test.
The test should be conducted on `to be brides' two weeks prior to the
wedding day. Any client with allergic reactions such as swelling, red
eyes, skin rashes etc should be admitted to hospital as soon as
possible. A new blade should be used for each customer to prevent HIV
infections.
It is possible for a person to die within a short period of 20
minutes if he or she is subjected to a severe allergy and allergic
shock. This type of severe allergies can be caused by expired,
unregistered and low quality chemicals and similar substances used for
beauty treatment, creams used for facials etc. Such products should not
be "expired" and of in high quality. HIV can be spread through used
blades, the spokesman said. |
