Maldivian Defence Minister admires SLN inshore patrol craft
capabilities
Tholhath Ibrahim, Minister of Defence and National Security of the
Maldives visited SLN’s Rangalle at the Port of Colombo on October 14, to
view SLN IPC capabilities.
He was received by Director General Naval Operations, Rear Admiral
Jayantha Perera and Commander, Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral D S
Udawatte.
The Maldivian Defence and National Security Minister showed a keen
interest in SLN Inshore Patrol Craft and viewed a presentation on IPCs
constructed by SLN.
He was impressed by their capability of providing protection to
inshore coastal areas and lagoons with their ultra shallow draft.
The Sri Lanka Navy produces a wide range of IPCs which have a
low-profile, greater speed, superior maneuverability, a high rate of
fire power and ultra shallow water operation capability. They were used
with a very high success rate against LTTE Sea Tiger to obtain tactical
advantage during humanitarian operations. These craft are now used for
special operations, coastal protection, harbour defence and providing
assistance to fishermen. SLN has extended its boat building ability to
cater to public transportation and pleasure riding requirements. |
