Authority to boost construction sector

The government has taken steps to establish a Construction Development Authority to uplift the construction sector.

As a result of the requests made by many, the Institute for Construction Training and Development (ICTAD) will be upgraded to an Authority Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.

The minister said so visiting the National Engineering and Technological Exhibition "Techno 2011" recently at the BMICH.

The minister said that plans have been drawn for this transformation and the report is to be submitted to the Cabinet Sub-committee soon.

Once the report is received from the Cabinet Sub-committee it will be tabled for Parliamentary approval after obtaining Cabinet approval within this year.

It is an organization set up by the Government to develop and promote the domestic construction industry, contractors, professionals and the, workforce, ICTAD has established itself as a recognized and important constituent of the construction industry. .
