Jaywalkers beware

The Colombo City Traffic Police has deployed a special Traffic Police team to detect jaywalking and parking vehicles on pavements. Any person violating these traffic laws will be arrested and produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Court, said Colombo City Traffic Director Senior SP Chula de Silva. Jaywalking and parking vehicles on the pavements had become a menace and contributed to the increasing number of accidents on the highways, Director Senior SP Chula de Silva said.

Earlier, Traffic Administration and Road Safety Traffic Operation Senior DIG Asoka Wijetilleka directed all the Traffic Police units to shortly enforce traffic laws and arrest persons who violate the existing traffic laws and prosecute them.
