Suspect who issued dud cheque arrested

A suspect alleged to have defrauded a person to the tune of Rs 650,000 by issuing a cheque which had bounced was arrested by the Matara Police following a complaint made by the affected party.

The complainant had said he sold his house to the suspect for Rs 2 million which was paid by the suspect in Rs 1.35 million cash and a cheque for Rs 650,000. Subsequently the cheque had bounced and the suspect had failed to pay the balance Rs 650,000 for the last one year despite repeated reminders. Investigations are continuing.
