Differently-abled War Hero gets new house
Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya handed over a
newly built house in the Divulapitiya area to another differently-abled
War Hero, Sergeant W R Sampath of the Armoured Corps on Tuesday. The
Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) has funded the housing construction.
Sergeant W.R Sampath became disabled after he sustained serious
injuries in an RPG attack during the Humanitarian Operations.
The new house was constructed in a 39 perches land donated by Seetha
Jayawardena, a philanthropist. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB
initiated the housing construction for Sergeant Sampath with an initial
donation of Rs 100,000 on November 4, 2010. The SVAB gifted Rs 900,000
to complete the construction. The Army Commander unveiled a plaque and
opened the new house, accompanied by the recipient, Sergeant Sampath and
the donor, Seetha Jayawardena. Members of the Maha Sangha invoked
blessings on the house warming. |
