The Police yesterday arrested a suspect in connection with the assault on Sri Lanka Medical Council Registrar Dr N J Nonis.

Police Spokesman SSP Maxi Proctor said that the Moratuwa Police arrested the suspect at Kaludawala, Panadura. The suspect was to be produced before the Moratuwa magistrate yesterday. He said that Dr Nonis was assaulted by two men on a motorbike near his residence at Rawatawatta at about 4 pm on Tuesday. He was assaulted while arriving home after work.

SSP Proctor said that one of the suspects had asked for directions from the doctor when he was assaulted on his head with a pole. Police said Dr Nonis is retired. The Moratuwa police are investigating.
