Rugby Fans in Kandy have organised a massive felicitation ceremony
for Kandy Sports Club who won the Rugby double of both Caltex League
Championship and the Clifford Cup Knock-out Tournament in Kandy on
September 24 (Saturday).
The ceremonies will start at 9.30 am when the team will be received
by the rugby fans at Municipal grounds, Getambe and taken in a motorcade
along Peradeniya Road. Crowds are expected to line up all along this
five Kilometre stretch to cheer up.
The first stop will be at Katukelle where there will be a reception.
The next stop will be near Kandy Clock Tower when there will be
another reception. The motorcade will then proceed along Yatinuwara
Veediya, D S Senanayake Veediya and Katugastota Road to Katugastota town
where there will be the third reception. Then the team will arrive at
the Nittawela Stadium where there will be speeches and the players will
mingle with their rugby fans.
From Nittawela the team will proceed to Kandy City Centre where there
will be more celebrations.
This is not the first time that the Kandy Sports Club team had been
taken in a motorcade in Kandy. The first time was in 1992 when they won
the Clifford Cup which was their maiden trophy. Next was when they
became league champions for the first time in 1993. |
