Airmen trounce Wattala BC

Air Force BC defeated Wattala BC (66-34) quite comfortably in their
Carlton Cup division ‘A’ Basketball match at the Police Depot yesterday.
Airmen were in total control from the beginning and scored 17 point
against 14 from losers in the first quarter. They tightened their grip
in the second quarter and lead 35-20 at half time.
Wattala players found it difficult to score in the latter part as the
Airmen defended the ring with a good teamwork. Air Force widened the gap
during the second half and were leading by 24 points at the end of the
third quarter (52-28). Airmen continued in same fashion in the final
quarter and won the match with a huge 36 point margin.
D. Wille and S. Fernando scored 12 points each for the winners while
N. Halaldeen (10 points) and N. Dhanusha (8 points) were the chief
scorers for the losers.
In a division ‘B’ match played at the same venue, Dhamso BC beat Red
Cap BC (81-72). The first half saw a point to point battle but the
losers managed to record a two point lead mid way (33-31).
Eventhough Dhamso scored 21 points while keeping the Red Caps team
four points behind in the first quarter (21-17), losers came back with a
strong attack and added 16 points against the winners’ 10 in the second
quarter.
Dhamso team regained control in the second half and won the match
with a nine point lead. M. Vimukthi (34 points) and S Salwathura (16
points) added to Dhamso BC while R. Jayawickrema and A Dias scored 29
and 15 points for the lo
The tournament included a unique feature in this year by introducing
the ‘Most Disciplined Team Award’ and the Carlton BC is ranked number
one to date, followed by the SL Navy team. |
