STF seizes unlicensed liquor stock

A man with an unlicensed stock of liquor was taken into custody by STF headquarters IP Abhayasinghe and a team at Makuluduwa in Piliyandala when they raided the place on a tip off received by ASP Sylvestor Wijesinghe of special weapons and tactics unit . The STF raided the illegal pub on Wednesday evening and arrested A S Abeyratne of Paligedara, Piliyandala and seized 22 foreign and local liquor bottles, glasses, plastic containers, Rs 5,600 in cash from his possession. Piliyandala police are investigating.


Indians selling textile arrested

STF officers from Malwaththa camp in Ampara arrested three person while they were merchandising textile at Pandiruppu in Kalmunai police area. They had entered the country on tourist visas.

The three suspects, M Ganesh Kumar, V Arumugam and P C Balamurugan of Tamil Nadu were arrested on Wednesday evening by SI B A S Bandara and a team under his directions , ASP G S K Muruththuttuwegama.

The police also seized two passports, 44 sarees and 54 salvar dresses and some cash. Kalmunai police are investigating.


Motorcyclist dies on the spot

A motorcyclist has died on the spot when his bicycle skidded off the road and crashed into a ditch near Liyannagama Buddha statue on Amunukale road in Galgamuwa on Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as W Thisera ( 54 ) of Galgamuwa. Meanwhile another person succumbed to his injuries after two days in Colombo National hospital who had been admitted following a van-lorry head-on collision at Werallawatta in Gampaha. The driver of the van , U G Dhammika of Kalagedihena died on Wednesday morning at the National hospital. Gampaha police have arrested the lorry driver and are further investigating.


Man succumbs to injuries

A man succumbed to his injuries when he was knocked down by the Matale bound Kandy train at Poornawatte junction in Mahaiyawa on Wednesday.

He has been identified as R H M Ansar of Polgolla.

The body will be subjected to a post mortem in Kandy hospital morgue. Kandy police are investigating.


Man arrested with pornographic films

Polonnaruwa police took into custody a man with a computer and a pen drive that contained pornographic films at a video centre in Jayanthi Vihara Mawatha, Polonnaruwa.

The suspect was to be produced in Polonnaruwa magistrate’s court yesterday.
