Death be not proud...
‘To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure’
Albus Dumbledore of the ‘Harry Potter’ series
Death is as natural as birth. We are not immortals and even if we did
drink out of the fountain if youth, I doubt if we would ever be happy.
Let’s face the reality. Death larks in every corner. You never know if
you might face death in a couple of years, the following week, tomorrow
or in the next few seconds.
Death is frightening and no man can honestly deny this. They will
always be afraid of their own eventual non-existence in the universe.
Yet have you ever wondered if life will never be the same without death?
The beauty of our existence is that it is limited. Think of it in
terms of a marathon. Life is a 100 meter dash with the finish line in
sight. You give it everything youve got, everything this earthly body
can give and the adrenaline and excitement is incredible.
Some people are so afraid to die that they never begin to live |
Sri Chinmoy once wrote in ‘My Rose Petals’ that death is the immortal
pilgrims short rest along the road of Eternity. Death is a necessary
experience for human beings at the present state of their evolving
consciousness.
You may take actions or mortgage time to keep death at arms length
but remember that time passes quickly. No one can avoid the time in
which he or she is destined to leave this earth.
This is my belief. I maybe wrong. You may not be able to grasp things
in my point of view. Whatever you may think, here goes. You are aging.
You might be suffering from a deathly illness
You know that your lifeline is running short. Sure, it’s natural to
be frightened of death. You wonder how you will meet your end. Will you
be in a lot of pain? What will happen to your loved ones? What about
your cherished possessions? And worse still, where will you head off to
from here? Is there an afterlife or do you simply cease to exist?
For me death is a journey into the unknown. It is a transition from
our body to another stage of life. If we develop an identity with our
inner self then we will lose our fear of death.
Continue to love in the face of death. Even if you failed to achieve
some targets in life, the knowledge that you have spent a just existence
will console you. If you do good for others and make them happy, those
thoughts will be with you till your last breath. You can leave life
knowing that you did not contribute to another’s pain and sorrow.
What spurred these thoughts, you ask? Two aspects. Remember how Harry
Potter mastered courage to face Voldemort and the killing curse? That is
one moment which inspired my these words. That and an astrologer’s
prophesy.
