The foundation stone for the proposed four-storeyed building
of Nalanda Girls’ College, Minuwangoda, was laid under the
programme Supasan Nimthera Kara, launched on a concept of
Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga. Ven

The Sri Lanka Navy Seva Vanitha Unit has implemented welfare
projects for Naval personnel and their family members. Among
the projects are building houses for War Heroes’ families
and helping to uplift their health condition. Under the
first stage of this programme, an eye clinic was held at SLN
Shilpa at Thalathuoya, Kandy on August 25. Five parents of
fallen War Heroes suffering from cataract were identified
and surgeries were performed on September 15. Consultant
opthalmologist of Seeduwa Vijaya Kumaranathunga Eye Hospital
Dr C Amarathunga, his staff, specialist opthalmologists Dr
Padmini Samarathunga and Dr Prasanna Gunarathna of Colombo
Eye Hospital and staff assisted in the eye surgeries. |
Plans to shift field work centre
Plans are afoot to bring back the Thondamanaru Field
Work Centre from Jaffna to Thondamanaru.
The field work centre conducted examinations in
science, social science and mathematics for Jaffna schools, the
marking scheme of question papers was devised by this centre and the
paper setters and markers were selected by them to maintain a high
standard.
Death of Upali Navaratne Bandara
The death occurred of Upali Navaratne Bandara,
former senior manager, ANCL on September 17, 2011. He leaves his
wife Mallika and three children, including Wasantha (Deputy
Solicitor General - Attorney General's Dept). Remains are lying at
No 10/110, Kingston Villas, First Lane, Waragoda, Kelaniya.
Funeral takes place at General Cemetery, Kanatte at
4 pm today.
