Navy nabs 44 while trying to flee to Australia

The Navy took 44 Sri Lankans into custody yesterday morning in Kalmunai in the Eastern waters for attempting to sail illegally to Australia, Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya told the Daily News.

He said that the group included one female and two children. The boat had left from Negombo shores. He noted that the group was handed over to the Police after escorting them to the Trincomalee harbour in three Navy vessels.
