‘Divi Neguma, a great success’

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has pointed out that there is today a tendency by the ordinary people to grow vegetables in their home gardens.

The minister said the people had been given a new lease of life with the launching of the Divi Neguma national programme.

The minister attributed the present low prices of various vegetables in the local market to this tendency of the people, expressed his gratitude to everybody who extended their co-operation to make the Divi Neguma national programme a success which is a concept under the Mahinda Chintana new vision. The minister mentioned this at the Divi Neguma Agricultural, Livestock Resources and Fishery Industrial Sub Committee Meeting held at the Parliamentary Complex on September 9.

Minister Basil Rajapaksa disclosed at this discussion that arrangements were underway for the provision of packets of vegetable seeds to 150 families in each of the Grama Seva Division under the Divi Neguma programme.

He said by now 200,000 seed packets had been prepared and the balance would be prepared within the next three weeks.
