New intercity train service to Vavuniya

Sri Lanka Railways (SLR) yesterday launched a new intercity express
train service between Colombo Fort and Vavuniya.
This new service will address the long-term need of daily travelleres
to Vavuniya.
The Intercity Express train will depart from Colombo Fort at 6.50 am
and arrive in Vavuniya at 10.50am. The return jorney from Vavuniya
begins at 3.10 pm and arrives in Colombo at 7.15 pm.

Power Set recently imported from India is being used for the new train
service between Vavuniya and Colombo Fort.
The intercity express train will stop at six stations. They are,
Polgahawela, Kurunegala, Galgamuwa, Anuradhapura, Medawachchiya and
Vavuniya.
This new service will operate daily commencing from Colombo Fort at
4.20pm to Vavuniya.
He further said that the official launch of the new intercity express
train between Colombo Fort and Vavuniya took place at the Anuradhapura
railway station at 4.00pm yesterday under the patronage of Transport
Minister Kumara Welgama. |
