Sri Lanka is a very exciting country and it will soon become the next
Singapore, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd Vice Chairman and Managing Director
Anand G. Mahindra said. He said when he first visited Sri Lanka in 1981
he expressed the same sentiments. “However the volatile political
climate that prevailed put a pause to Sri Lanka becoming the next
Singapore,” Mahindra said.
Mahindra who was in Sri Lanka last August had an interaction with
President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He said he was very happy to note the rapid
development that was taking place in Sri Lanka.
“I can now predict that Sri Lanka is heading towards being the next
Singapore,” Mahindra said.
Mahindra said with the economy booming in Sri Lanka their sales too
have increased. “Sri Lanka is our biggest export market among 14
countries that include South Africa, African countries, Australia and
the SAARC countries.”
With a current capacity of 3.2 million vehicles per year and a
future-ready expandable module setup, Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd
is a fully-owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd and is a US $12.5
billion company. It is also the world’s largest tractor company in terms
