British Barrister bowled over by Lanka
Sarath Malalasekera
UK Barrister James Potts and his fiancee, Kristine Kozicki, a trainee
Solicitor who visited Sri Lanka recently, praised Sri Lankans for their
warm hospitality. The couple toured several parts of the country,
including the Eastern Province.
Potts said the Kandy Esala Perehara is one of the most spectacular
events that they had ever seen. During their short stay in Colombo after
a fortnight with the Commission in Kurunegala and Kandy, they met Chief
Justice Dr Shirani A Bandaranayake, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Secretary
General Dhammika Kitulgoda, Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem and several
other dignitaries including President's Counsel Upali Gooneratne.
Potts won an essay competition organised by the Commonwealth
Barristers' Association and was selected to undergo an internship with
the Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka after which he associated himself
with President's Counsel Upali Gooneratne.
Potts who topped the Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in English
Literature at the Oxford and Cambridge Universities, joined Gray's Inn
from which he was called to the Bar in early September.
