Mihin Lanka would launch direct to Manila from next month. The
airline would also recommence flights to Singapore.
SriLankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickramasinghe, speaking at the
Pro Surf Championships here said that they would be initially looking at
a frequency of two flights per week. “We will look at increasing the
frequencies according to the demand,” he added.
The airline would be deploying the current air craft for this
operation.
He identified Mihin Lanka as the low cost feeder airline to
SriLankan. “It is very important as takes our traffic to other
destinations such as Bangladesh and Jakarta where SriLankan is not
operating,” he said. The budget airline currently flies to Trivendem,
Bothgaya, Dubai, Kuwait, Bangladesh and Jakarta. Established in April
2007 Mihin Lanka’s main focus is providing low cost flights from Colombo
to a number of cities.
Both airlines share resourses and adopt common synergies and are not
competing against each other. “We have one CEO, Kapila Chandrasena for
both air lines,” Wickramasinghe said. |
