Sri Sumangala College, Panadura emerged Kalutara District champions
in the under-15 'B' Division III cricket tournament when they beat
Pothupitiya Central College by 146 runs at their home grounds recently.

Sumangala College batted first and blazed to a 344/9 total in their
50 overs. Supun Dilahan and Lahiru Charuka top scored with 68 and 66
runs respectively while Kethmina Keminda added a valuable 45 to the
winning team. The strong Sumangala batting line up hammered the
Pothupitiya bowlers without much difficulty.
Thrindu and Janith were the only Pothupitiya bowlers who have gained
a little bit of control over the batsmen.
Tharindu bagged three wickets off 65 runs while Janith sent off two
batsmen to the pavilion out of 45 runs.
When chasing the huge target Pothupitiya team were skittle out for
198 runs in 39.2 overs. Mahesh Nandika did the gravest damage to the
Pothupitiya batting order by removing four batsmen for 25 runs with his
superb bowling spell.
Thimira Silva and Isuru Malintha picked two wickets each for the
winning team.
Chamath who scored 92 runs for the losers was the only class they
showed with the bat.
Sumangala College defeated Taxila College, Horana by 181 runs and
Kalutara Vidyalaya by 112 runs in early clashes during the tournament
and the match against St. Mary's College, Mathugama went on to a draw as
the rain hindered play. |
