‘PR key to maintain law and order’

Public relation is key to maintain the law and order in the country.
Police officers’ prime duty is also to maintain the law and order by
conducting investigations and arresting suspects, said Additional
Solicitor General Palitha Fernando at a public lecture on
“Accountability of the Police Officer” held at the Sri Lanka Foundation
Institute Auditorium recently.
The Police should be able to assist the public to live without fear.
“In our old days any woman could go to any part of the country during
midnight without fear,” the Additional Solicitor General said.
He said the police should help the public when they come to make a
complaint without harassing them. The complaint should be entertained in
a cordial manner.
The police should give priority to children and women abuse cases.
They should take strong action against the culprits who harass children
and women and bring them to books without delay. The public should not
take the law into their hands, the ASG added.
Human Rights Executive Director Senior Attorney at Law Kalyananda
Thiranagama and Deputy Inspector General of Police Gamini Dissanayake
also addressed the seminar.
The welcome speech was delivered by Foundation Institute Chairman Dr
Ranjith Bandara.
Senior Attorney-at-Law Asoka Serasinghe conducted the proceedings.
