Failing examinations is not failing in life - Minister

‘Failing in an examination is not failing in life. Every person is talented in at least one field,s Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

“Only 21,000 of around 342,000 students who enter grade one will gain entrance to a university. As Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister, I am responsible for seeing that the other 321,000 gain skills in some profession. No one should be branded as a failure,” Alahapperuma said addressing the Matara District Media personnel.

The seminar held at the hotel school of the vocational Training Institute in Ahangama was titled “Heritage from one generation to the next.” Alahapperuma also said that our ancestors were skilled workmen who built stupas and irrigation systems to perfection. “It is our duty to instill that skill in our present and future generations”. He said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa had agreed to set up a school to train youth in media related fields, “It will be opened soon,” he said.

Editorial Director of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited Seelarathna Senarath, Assistant Director of the Rupavahini Corporation Neelar N Cassim and Media Secretary to the Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Nimal Weeratunga also addressed the seminar.
