Green Awards for fourteen sectors
The first National Green Award ceremony organised by the Central
Environmental Authority coming under the purview of the Environment
Ministry to encourage and appreciate environment friendly industries and
services was held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at
the BMICH Colombo on Tuesday.
The President distributed the awards among the Gold award winners,
Bodyline Horana, SriLanka Catering Katunayake, Heritance, Kandalama and
Ulugalla Resort, Thirappane. Other Gold award winners Udabadalawa Maha
Vidyalaya and Maga Engineering (Pvt) Ltd received their awards from
Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa while the Nine Silver
awards were distributed by Minister Yapa and Secretary to the President
Lalith Weeratunge.
The Bronze awards were distributed by Environment Ministry Secretary
Dr R H S Samaratunge.
The special merit award presented by the CEA went to Geo Cycle
(Lanka) Pvt Ltd.
CEA Chairman Charitha Herath presented special mementos to the
members of the Judges panel which included Dr Sumith Pilapitiya, Ashley
de Vos, Iranganie Serasinghe, Dr Padmini Batuwitage, Dr Priyadarshani
Thalgaswatta, Sena Pieris, Asitha Seneviratne and Lalitha Fonseka.
The award winners were selected from among 300 institutions which had
sent in applications to the CEA.
