Boats, equipment for resettled fisher families

The fishing community in the Nagar Grama Seva Division in Kilinochchi was given fishing boats and other required equipment.

One hundred selected families of the newly resettled families in the Nagar Grama Seva Division were given this equipment by Fisheries Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne.

An officer of the Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi stated that when the fisher community was asked for the their needs they requested for canoes, fishing nets and bicycles to transport their crops. He added that the families were given 40 fibreglass canoes, 40 fishing nets and bicycles.

Over 150,000 fingerlings were also released into the Iranamadu reservoir for the benefit of those fishing communities living in the area. The officer further stated that most of the civilians in that area were living on fishing and the removal of restrictions on fishing has boosted the industry and the income of the families.

Parliamentarian P Chandrasekaran,and Commander of the Security Forces Headquarters Kilinochchi Major General Nandana Udawatta were also present on the occasion.
