University of Kelaniya:
Sacred Bo sapling planting Ceremony

To commemorate the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthiya, the
University of Kelaniya planted a sacred Bo sapling from the Jaya Sri
Maha Bodhiya. The sacred Bo sapling was planted near the main entrance
to the university, next to the Buddha statue.
First the sacred Bo sapling was brought to the Peliyagoda
Vidyalankara Pirivena from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Anuradhapura and
kept in a special room to pay homage by the public under the patronage
of the Venerable Chancellor, Most Venerable Valamitiyawe Dharmakirthi
Sri Kusaladhamma thera.
The Sacred Bo sapling was brought to the university by procession
last month. After observing precepts and chanting pirith, the
Venerable Chancellor, Most Venerable Valamitiyawe Dharmakirthi Sri
Kusaladhamma thera and the Vice Chancellor, Prof Sarath Amunugama
planted the Sacred Bo sapling.
