Economic Development Minister Basil
Rajapaksa was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony
of a number of road development projects in the Ratnapura
district on June 25. A stretch of 275 km of the provincial
roads will be developed and carpeted in Ratnapura district

Dengue larvae in boats

A special anti-dengue programme launched by the Gandara Police
revealed that mosquito larvae was found at the bottom of fishing boats
on the sea shore.
The dengue programme conducted on the beach at Devinuwara,
Kirillawela, Gandara and adjacent areas found that the water which
collected at the bottom of the fishing boats were veritable dengue
breeding sites.
Flag hoisting ceremony
The flag hoisting ceremony of Nainathivu Nagapooshany Amman temple
will take place on July 1 at 12 noon. The festivals that draw a crowd
are Sapparam on July 5, Mancham on July 11, Chariot festival on July 14,
Thepa Utsavam on July 16 night. Motor launch service to the temple will
operate from Kayts and Kurikadduvan piers. Dana will be served in the
temple daily.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva warns Lanka newspaper Editor. The error
is regretted.
Rs.600 m for new building
Rs 600 million has been allocated for the construction of a new
building to Jaffna Municipal Council at a meeting held in Colombo to
discuss the development programmes in the North. Economic Development
Minister Basil Rajapaksa has intimated this decision to Mayor of Jaffna
Y.Patkunarajah. Rs 300 million will be granted in the first instance and
the balance Rs 300 million will be granted as a loan.
Bodies of drowned students found

The bodies of two students who drowned in the sea on Saturday evening
at Pudukkunisiruppu in the Kantankudy Police area, were found yesterday
morning. Two children from a group of eight who had gone for a swim in
the sea, had got into difficulties and drowned.
T. Nishanthan and P. Vinodraj were year 10 students at
Pudukkunisiruppu Vidyalaya. The bodies are lying at the Batticaloa
Teaching Hospital mortuary. Kaththankudy police are investigating. |
