Govt media school coming up in two years

The government has planned to establish a Government Media School
within the next two years to facilitate large-scale development in the
media field. Mass Media and Information Ministry Secretary W B Ganegala
said that this initiative proves the President’s dedication and interest
to develop the media field, as mentioned in the Mahinda Chinthana policy
as well as in the Mahinda Chinthana Future Vision policy.
The secretary said that a committee has been appointed to compile the
proposal in this regard with experts in the field.
The secretary made these observations at the fifth Esidisi Vinisa one
day media training programme organized by the ministry jointly with the
Government Information Department at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial
International Centre auditorium on Saturday.
Ganegala said that the government intends to provide media equipment
and educational scholarships for journalists to receive an efficient
service from them.
He said that the respect of the journalists would be preserved while
assuring media freedom in the country. He noted that the establishment
of a media school will be accelerated for the advancement of the media
field. |
