The government has planned to establish a Government Media School within the next two years to facilitate large-scale development in the media field. Mass Media and Information Ministry Secretary W B Ganegala said that this initiative proves the President’s dedication and interest to develop the media field, as mentioned in the Mahinda Chinthana policy as well as in the Mahinda Chinthana Future Vision policy.

The secretary said that a committee has been appointed to compile the proposal in this regard with experts in the field.

The secretary made these observations at the fifth Esidisi Vinisa one day media training programme organized by the ministry jointly with the Government Information Department at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial International Centre auditorium on Saturday.

Ganegala said that the government intends to provide media equipment and educational scholarships for journalists to receive an efficient service from them.

He said that the respect of the journalists would be preserved while assuring media freedom in the country. He noted that the establishment of a media school will be accelerated for the advancement of the media field.
