Army go on a scoring spree

The fast spaced Army forwards with their Bullet spray type attacking scored 2 early goals to disarray the Police defence line who could not recover at all during the 90 minutes of play.

It was a good semi-final with thousands and of thousands fans with Papare sounds from both teams and the Jaffna football fans who witnessed a professionally conducted Holcim FA Cup Semi final at St.John's College ground in Jaffna.

Football loving Holcim CEO Stefan Huber was a happy man as their arrangement with Football Federation to take the semi-final to Jaffna had created much excitement and enthusiasm for thousands of Football fans in Jaffna who were thriving for a good game of football from a long long time.

On paper both teams looked equal but with the blow of the whistle of match referee Priyanga Peiris the Army started attacking with a well combined strike force including the pint sized rocket M.Fazal, the goal scoring M. Isadeen together with the attacking mid fielders Lasantha Kumara and Madushan backing from the wings.

In just 6th minutes Lasantha netted the first goal for Army and in just 5 minutes Madushan added the second for the disbelief of all Police fans. The score was 2-0 at lemons.

The drill display at half time by the kids of St. John's College was a master piece and everybody enjoyed it.

Soon after the break M.Fazal who thrilled the crowds with all his tactical skills made no mistake when he grabbed the opportunity created by a Police defence to score the 3rd in the 54th minute.

With Army going strong with many attacks they added 2 more goals at regular intervals to make it 5 -0 with M. Isadeen netting 2 goals for Army.

So Army entered the finals of Holcim FA Cup 2011 where their opponents will be decided at the next semi-final scheduled to be played on the 16th June at Matara FFSL complex at 3.30.

Army has now become a high scoring unit with a 4-1 win at Pre quarters against Old Bens, a 6-0 win over New Youngs in the quarters and New Youngs with 6-0 at Quarters and a 5-0 at semi-final which shows the strength of their strikers attacking power of the strikers which is also a warning for any team that faces them.
